Authentic Hawaiian shaved ice is tricky to get right: the ice must be fine and powdery, and the syrup can easily be poured on too heavily--causing the ice to collapse--or too lightly--leaving you with pure ice in the middle or at the bottom. Pat and Kristen Roskowick, however, have gotten it perfect since day one with their Get Shaved van.
Last Friday, the couple expanded their ono (delicious) venture by opening a Get Shaved store in Northridge, which serves, of course, shaved ice but with a few new goodies.
Get Shaved fans, anything look different here? That's right. You now have a choice of eight different ice cream flavors for your shaved ice. AND *drumroll please* the ice cream is from Fosselman's. *Happy dance*
New to the menu are shakes and ice cream sandwiches, and, when the ice cream is from Fosselman's you know either of these is an excellent decision. On my next visit, I'm definitely ordering The OG with either Taro or Coconut Pineapple ice cream.
The look of the store is adorable. It looks just like it belongs in Hawaii!

J ordered also ordered a medium shaved ice but with Guava and POG (passion, orange, guava) and Macadamia Nut ice cream ($3.75). Again, the flavored ice cream took this favorite to a new level.
Although Pat and Kristen are not from Hawaii, they genuinely love it, and this love is evident in their quality of their shaved ice. I was thrilled to see that they were busy, busy when I visited and hope that this keeps up!
