The Great American Bake Sale , sponsored by Share Our Strength, is not your average bake sale. Share Our Strength is an organization dedicated to ending childhood hunger in America, and, since its first bake sale in 2003, has raised $6 million to support its cause.
This past weekend, as part of the Great American Bake Sale, over 40 bloggers got cookin' for the first annual National Food Bloggers Bake Sale, organized by Gaby Dalkin of WhatsGabyCooking.com.
Lured in by the promise of sweet treats benefitting a good cause, I made a stop at The Grove to check out the event.
These cute cookies had statistics related to child hunger in the US, reminding shoppers of the reason for the bake sale.
Although I wanted to purchase everything in sight (for my tummy as well as the cause), I left with a slice of strawberry yogurt pound cake from A for Aubergine, a Hawaiian blondie from The Dish's Dish and two macarons from Daydreamer Desserts.
Because it was far too beautiful a day to simply carry on with our errands, J and I took a seat in the grass to enjoy our macarons.
The banana cream pie macaron tasted remarkably like an actual banana cream pie. With one bite, I was reminded of the banana cream pie that my Mom would sometimes buy as a surprise for me when I was in elementary school. Such bold flavor from such a small cookie!
The pina colada macaron was equally impressive. I felt as though I should have been lounging poolside with this one!
Kudos to Gaby for undertaking such a large endeavor. I hope that everything turned out well and that everyone enjoyed their sweets as much as I did!
